On December 2, 2015, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents began raids targeting Central Americans who entered the U.S. in 2014 without authorization and have final deportation orders. ICE will not engage in workplace raids or other mass enforcement actions, but will instead target addresses for families with deportation orders.
Last year many Central Americans fled gang and drug violence in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Many of these recent immigrants may be eligible for asylum in the United States which will eventually allow them to live and work permanently in the country. An asylum immigration case in which the immigrant fears persecution is complex and attorneys are needed in the process. If an immigration judge ordered you and your family deported either because your asylum claim was denied or you did not appear for your immigration court hearing, the Law Offices of Michael M. Felix may help you reopen your case in immigration court and assist you to file a strong asylum application. Our attorneys will work zealously to prove that if you are deported to Central America you will face unspeakable violence, even murder.
If ICE agents come to your home do not open the door. You have the right to see a search warrant; and if the ICE agent fails to provide a warrant, you have the right to refuse to open the door.
The Law Offices of Michael M. Felix provides the following general advice to immigrants who are apprehended by ICE agents:
- You have the right to remain silent
- Do not answer any questions
- Do not say anything about where you were born or how you entered the United States
- Do not show any documents, except a letter from a lawyer. Above all, do not show any false documents!
- Do not sign anything, especially an Order of Voluntary Departure, without first talking to a lawyer
